Our Model of Community Lawyering
Common Law partners with grassroots organizations that (1) have activist goals, (2) use community organizing to meet those goals, and (3) are membership driven.
Every member of the grassroots organization receives free legal services from Common Law in exchange for his/her active involvement in the organization’s campaign work.
Our model of lawyering emphasizes community building and shared goals through:
(a) Group intakes so that members share their personal stories with one another in a structured way; and
(b) Legal education to highlight the commonalities among individual stories and to link individual stories to a specific organizing campaign.
